Castlehill Country Day School Reviews

Dedicated energetic teachers at every grade level, a talented, concerned and involved headmistress and extras like Spanish, music and art program oppurtunities tha you will not find anywhere else in Tucson make this a first rate school. I cannot say enough good things about this school. My granddaughter just graduated from fifth grade my grandson is a pre-kindergartner and they both love this place. It is a safe and beautiful place to educate your children, they will leave here with the confidence and skills to make an easy transition to Middle School and everything else in life. My granddaughters description of this scholl, 'it's like going to school with your grandma, you will get into trouble if you mess up, but you know that Mrs Schlosberg will still love you afterwards' what more can you say!!

A very good school with a caring headmaster and teachers who challenge their students. The faculty includes a great team of teaching assistants as well. Student-teacher ratio is about 10-1 if not below in most classes.

Castlehill is a wonderful school lead by a dynamic headmistress who knows and loves every child there. Her mission is to have each child maximize his or her academic potential while enjoying the process of learning. She does an amazing job with fairly limited resources (the tuition is not cheap for Tucson, but it still probably less than public school per capitas and far less than schools offering comparable education in bigger cities).

Outstanding in every way.

From the Principal to the Janitor, every staff member is dedicated to giving the students a safe, enjoyable and effective educational experience. I was so inpressed with the way they treated my Grandaughter, and her effortless transition to middle school, that I have now enrolled my Grandson there too.

With two grandchildren at Castlehill, and a Masters in teaching myself, I am continually grateful for their excellent involved teachers, outstanding head, high academic standards and wonderful facilities.

Hands down, it is the best educational environment for young children in Tucson! It is a rigorous, but supportive learning environment that emphasizes hard work, commitment, dedication as well as love for learning!! And this is pre-K to fifth grade!!! We couldn't be happier to have this school in our community or more proud to have both our children enrolled there!

Individualism, creativitism, character traits, phenomenal music, spanish, PE, Computers, Library and Science departments! The best teachers around! Any questions? :)

Its the best! The most caring, nurturing environment for developing young minds with excellent academic standards as well.

Our children truly love school and I believe the teachers at Castlehill are a big reason why. We are thankful for the opportunity to send our children to Castlehill.

Castlehill's amazing teachers have the opportunity to teach as individuals to each student's individuality and therefore every child in class receives the support they need to excel both socially and academically.

Castlehill is a wonderful, nurturing place for children to learn through experiences and not just books. The campus is beautiful, the parents very involved and the teachers are caring and fun.

This place has made my kids love school. How many schools can say that?

Castlehill is a wonderful school with caring teachers and staff and an outstanding curriculum where even the youngest students have 'specials' classes including music, Spanish and computers. Castlehill is one of the finest schools in Arizona and the country!

School had a better reputation in the past. Unfortunately many student have left and the class sizes are half of what they used to be. The art program is fabulous and the spanish teacher is as sweet as can be. The teachers kids go to school there and there is favoritism towards their kids by the other faculty, they tend not to be disciplined when behavioral problems arise. Bullying is also not dealt with due to low enrollment, the principle does not want to lose any more students, many fabulous kids have left due to these problems.

The pros and cons. Castlehill is a wonderful school and has a family-like feel to it. We have enjoyed sending our child to this school since kindergarden. The teachers are 100% dedicated to enriching your child's education experience and social skills. Our child is above a grade level in many areas and loves learning new topics and skills. However, much improvement in extra activities, i.e., spanish, computers, and science. I would like to see more class time in these areas, which is limited to 30/45 minutes 1x to 2x per week. I would also give more homework and vocabulary tests in spanish. The administration needs improvement too. The school rules should be adhere to by everyone, b/c I have seen the favoritism that takes place, and so does gossip. The school needs to offer more free services, or lower their fees, b/c parents do have other choices.

Do not know much about the toddler program can only speak about the elementary school. High teacher turnover in multiple grades, same teachers that in fact come from public schools, teachers that stay are dedicated and good. Unfortunately the inconsistent policies and rules and extreme privil eges that are given to the owners' family members and close friends over shadow the education...bullying is a problem and lack of accountability for excessive requests for extra money make me wonder....

The toddler program far exceeded any program I've ever experienced. I cannot believe some of the negative feedback on this school as it's by far, the best in Tucson! Look forward to my child growing up there.

I send my daughter to Pre-School. She absolutely loves to go. There are many field trips and outings for parents to be involved in. We are looking forward to the Trike-a-thon to raise money for St. Judes hospital. The teachers are fantastic. If structure is what you like, Castlehill is perfect. My only suggestion would be to tighten security in the morning. I once and only once dropped of my daughter early to the toddler playground. (Gate in the front only, then toddler playground spills into the campus - should be an additional gate - kids can easily run off!)

In response to an earlier concern regarding Computers and technology, the students receive up to an hour of instruction per wk. depending on grade level. All classrooms except pre-s/pre-k have Internet access. Hand s on learning is encouraged for pre-s rather than TV. And computers. The computer lab is a fantastic resource for all grade levels throughout the week. No other private school in Tucson has a lab like Castlehill. Go take a look and see for yourself!

Our three children have been at Castlehill for 5 years. The have an exceptional curriculum. Very strong math, science and reading but also all the extras like art, music, and spanish, for example. The principal knows every child and is always available to parents. The campus is large and the rooms are big and inviting. I love Castlehill.

Our child has been here since K and is now finishing 4th grade. The teachers and parents are very involved. Teachers do individualized plans for children. Small class sizes (12-17). Very well rounded educational experiences (art, science, computers, Spanish, music-with full musical stage production every year--lots of fun to see!) AND excellent academics. Our son does work that is 5th grade level in fourth grade. We absolutely love this school!!!

We love this school! The teachers are all exceptional, experienced and nurturing. The director takes an interest in all of the families. She has a vast knowledge of child development and learning styles. Plenty of extracurricular activities provided including chess, art, music. Loving, fun atmosphere. We couldn't be happier!

my daughter attended a toddler (age 2) program here and we were very disappointed. There was little teacher involvement. There wasn't much of a program to justify the high price tag. Higher levels seem to be better.

We love this school. My oldest has been there from the Toddler program and is starting Kind.Great school environment. Great academics, he thinks learning is fun, loves to go. I can use not going to school as a punishment. Teachers are very accessible as well as headmaster. Lots of extracurricular programs, art, music, computers, spanish, chess program. After school art, cooking classes. From pre=school tey have done a music program on the big stage. Learning 3 or more songs - very cute and fun. Parents are very involved and incouraged to be in the classroom at any time.

Technology is not stressed. Most classes do not have access to the Internet. Students get 30 minutes per week of computer instruction.

Preschool program is very well-run. Teachers are caring and children have lots of opportunities to explore the campus and spend time with older students. Strong social guidelines for parents (i.e. must invite all kids in class to parties if invitations are distributed at school)helps to counter some of the quite noticeable cliques among parents. Overall, a nice traditional preschool.

I have been very happy with the pre-school, pre-k program. There is art, music, computer and spanish enrichment provided and my daughter can read now in pre- k!

This review pertains to my experience with the pre-school level. Socialization at pre-school level is great with Spanish, computer class, music, etc. offered. Teachers are well trained and suited as are their aides and student/teacher ratio in pre-school is 1 teacher/aide per 6 students. Multiple classes are offered per age group. Interaction with the older children, as in the 'reading buddy' program is excellent. Activities are many and varied with field trips, special events, etc. Campus is extremely spacious and well equipped, however, classroom buildings are primarily temporary. My main negative observation would be that campus security, while greatly improved over fall 2003, continues to be lax and (this is personal opinion only) screening of students for admittance seems to be based on vacancy rather than qualification.

Things that should stay between teacher and parent, don't! Things that should stay between Admin staff and parent, don't! Also, not enough male role models.
